This term the focus author is Malorie Blackman OBE. She has written over 60 books for children and teenagers which have been translated into 15 languages. Malories loves science and computers and sometimes uses these subject as a base for her books. In fact before she became an author she was a computer programmer. In her free time Malorie likes to write poetry, compose music, play the piano and play computer games. In her role as Children's Laureate,  (from 2013 - 2015), Malorie promoted reading and reading for pleasure at every opportunity. She is passionate about reading and responds to anyone who says they do not like reading by saying "you haven't found the right book yet".

 Come to the Library and have a look at what there is to borrow, you may just find the 'right book for you'.

Book Fair

Thank you to everyone who attended the Scholastic book fair to celebrate World Book Day and reading. It was very busy and lovely to see children and adults browsing through the book selction. With your help we have raised a very impressive £310 in commission which is almost double the amount we raised last year.
Your support is very much appreciated.

Red Nose Day

The Junior Library has turned a lovely shade of red to celebrate Red Nose Day. All of the dispaly books have a red cover why not read one just for fun? The photograph shows a small example of the books you can choose from.

Competition Winners

We had a fantastic response for world book day 2017 last week. As predicted there were many Mad Hatters, Alice's, Queen of Hearts and Cheshire Cats. The design a bookmark competition was very well supported and all winners chose something from the book fayre. Well done and a big thank you to everyone who entered.

World Book Day 2017

World Book Day 2017

It's World Book Day on Thursday 2nd March and it is celebrating it's 20th Birthday. It is an opportunity to appreciate books and the enjoyment of reading in a fun and focussed way. Our theme for the day, in fact the week, is Alice in Wonderland the fantastic book written by Lewis Carroll. Children and staff are invited to dress up as one of the characters from the story. Hopefully there will be many Alices, cheshire cats, white rabbits and Mad Hatters.
 
A Scholastic Book Fayre will be held in the Junior Hall after school on Thursday 2nd, Friday 3rd and Monday 6th of March. Opening times will be 3.10-3.45. This will give everyone a chance to browse through the book selection and hopefully buy one. Every child will be given a £1 voucher which will enable them to have a £1 discount from any book priced at £2.99 or more.

I am also running  a design a bookmark competition for all year groups. Teachers have been given blank bookmarks this morning for everyone to colour, draw or desgin something fantastic. The closing date is Thursday 2nd March. The competition will be judged Friday morning and the winners will be collected to choose their prize from the book fayre.

There  are also 10 specially written and printed books just for World Book Day. These are available form bookshops and some supermakets at just £1. If you take your voucher along with and you choose one of these books it will be free. Definitely worth having a look at.

However you are celebrating World Book Day have fun.

Comedy Genre

The focus genre for this half term is comedy and funny stories. There are joke books, picture books and generally funny stories available. All of them will put a smile on your face and brighten the dark winter days. So if you want to lift your mood and have a laugh come and have a look in the library.

Adam Blade

Adam Blade is our author of the spring term. He is the author of the very popular series Beast Quest and Sea Quest.

These fantastic adventure stories follow the main character Tom as he tries to save Avantia from evil forces. Tom also embarks on seemingly impossible quests to solve problems. There are magical beasts, dragons and evil enemies included in all the stories which make them very exciting to read.. There are many books to choose from in the Library as well as in class book corners.

 ADAM BLADE FACTS

Adam is in his late twenties and was born in Kent. The inspiration for his books came from his fascination of a sword and shield that hung in his father’s office along with paintings that his father completed of historic English battles. As a child he often imagined himself in the battles as a hero warrior saving the day.

Adam’s parents were both history teachers and artists and their influence can be seen in the way Adam spends his free time. He loves to visit museums and ancient battle sites. As far as hobbies are concerned Adam takes part in football and fencing. He also spends a great deal of time looking after his pet tarantula Ziggy and his capuchin monkey Omar.

Is this the face of Adam Blade?

There have been suggestions that Adam Blade is not the author of Beast Quest. It is actually a pseudonym for four authors who collectively write the stories and publish the books under the name of Adam Blade. This remains a mystery as it has not been confirmed or denied.
