It's the start of a new term. a new year and a new decade. This term our focus author is David Walliams. He has been described by many people as 'the fastest growing children's author in the UK' as well as 'the new Roald Dahl'. All of his books are available to borrow from the Library. Read on to discover interesting facts about the man himself.

He was born on 20th August 1971. He changed his surname to Walliams when he became an actor.

The public know him for being a TV personality, actor, comedian and more recently an author. He is a judge on Britain’s Got Talent and is famous for his humour on the show. He has written and starred in two TV series where he played a chemistry teacher.

David is a great supporter of Comic Relief and has been made an honorary trustee of the charity. One of his most famous fund raising events was to swim the River Thames which is 140 miles long!! This event alone raised over 2 million pounds. Last year he chose an easier challenge and wrote a book called The Queen’s Orang-Utan and donated all profits to the charity.

He began writing children’s books in 2008 his first novel was called The Boy in the Dress. Since then he has written another seven books for children aged nine and over and four picture books for younger readers. His books have sold over 4 million copies worldwide with five of them being made into films. His most successful book, Gangsta Granny, is currently being adapted for theatre.
