Welcome back to school for the summer term, I hope you all enjoyed the Easter holiday.
This term our focus author is Terry Deary.
He has written the wonderfully successful Horrible Histories series. There are over 100 titles in the collection ranging from Awful Egyptians to Woeful Second World War and everything in between. He has played a huge part in making history popular and appealing to children. The books are informative, entertaining and at times gruesome, something that a great deal of children like.
As well as books Horrible Histories have been turned into very successful theatre shows, exhibitions, comics and computer games. This has made history 'come alive' and included a whole new audience increasing the popularity of the subject.

Terry Deary Facts

  • He was born in Sunderland in January 1943.
  • He did not like school as he was bullied. He preferred to work in his father's butcher shop when he could.
  • He became an actor in 1972.
  • He has had many various jobs including theatre director, museum manager, drama teacher, TV presenter and of course author.
  • In 1975 he married Jenny, they have one daughter.
  • In his spare time he likes to run and raise money for charity.
  • He belongs to Derwentside Athletic Club.
