Design A Dragon Competition

Monday, 11 July 2016

At last I am pleased to be able to announce the winners of the competition. They are

Mireia - 2P
Curtis - 5RH
Cydnee - 6T

All of them have been presented with a certificate and a reading book about dragons in assembly. Their excellent designs have been entered into the national competition, which is run by Scholastic Books. If any of them are national winners I will be notifeid by 30th September.
In total there were 63 entries, which I'm sure you will agree, is a very impressive amount. All entrants have now been presented with certificates.
There is a display of the some of the designs in the junior library. If you have a spare moment it is worth taking a look.

Summer Holidays

Friday, 1 July 2016

Looking for something to do in the long summer holidays?
Here are a couple of suggestions:

The Summer Reading Challenge

The summer reading challlenge is being run again this by staff at all of Havering public libraries. This year's theme is Roald Dahl's BFG (the big friendly giant). Once again the challenge is to read six library books during the school holidays. The only difference being that this year you will need to take a book that you have read with you. Cards will be given for every book read - some of them are really smelly! They can be stored in a special Big Friendly Read collectors folder which you will be given. If you manage to complete the challenge you will be awarded a medal and certificate in school during the autumn term.
The official launch date is 16th July however children can sign up to take part at any time after that date.
Please note that Hilldene Library will be closed from 16th July until 8th August when it will re open in a brand new building within Hilldene shopping area.
